Call To Arms...

We were taught how the pioneers went into the west.
They opened their eyes… and made up of what things could be.
A long time ago… things got broken here
People got sad and left..

Maybe the world breaks on purpose.
So we can have work to do….

People think there aren’t frontiers anymore…
They can’t see how frontiers… are…  all around us

Be ready, be swift, be courageous. The time is now, there is no better time to act, start, get up and do what has been on your mind. Your next challenge, obstacle, opportunity in life is waiting for you step up start the next frontier.

We all can procrastinate at times, I, myself am a victim to it occasionally. We must be diligent, passionate about our field of study (careers) and/or interests, committed to our family and friends, and be more active and quick to tackle challenges and opportunities that arise. Try to cut down the procrastination, & instead what you accomplish right now will be hugely beneficial in return.

If a man believes and expects great things of himself, it makes no odds where you put him, or what you show him ... he will be surrounded by grandeur. - Thoreau

There is no better time than right now to address the issues you are facing, don’t put them off any longer, have faith, and don’t be afraid. You can accomplish anything you set your mind to, only YOU can do that!

Tomorrow could be one the best days of your life! (Only if you live in the moment of NOW and not put if off any longer)

Frontiers, are really all around us, new ideas, new technology, there is so much out there, get out and be part of a new frontier, make your mark, and impact the future in a positive way!

Your life is your life, Don't let it be clubbed into dank submission.
Be on the watch, There are ways out.. There is light somewhere.
It may not be much light, but it beats the darkness.

Be on the watch, God will offer you chances, know them, take them.
You can't beat death, but you can beat death in life sometimes….

And the more often you learn to do it, the more light there will be.
Your life is your life, know it while you have it, You are marvelous.
God waits to delight in you…

The Battle Within...

Never look down on anybody unless you're helping him up. ~Jesse Jackson

We all know the "golden rule", it's the first thing we are taught as we start school at a young age. It's mentioned in various forms in almost every religion in throughout the world . "Treat Others, as YOU wish to be treated".

“In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets. - Matthew 7:12

Easy one to remember off the top of your head, but do we always practice it? I am human and will admit that I fall victim to not always practicing the "golden rule". But over the last year and a half I have come to start really living "Life" and practicing daily everything I talk about on The Gatsby; such as slow down, enjoy little things, have faith, watching how I talk, reach out to others, treat others with more respect and importance, enjoy my life and get back in touch with God and Nature.

I feel for once in 23 yrs I have opened up new doors not only spiritually, but holistically, naturalistic, new ideas and ways of thinking, which has giving me such a more peaceful life to live. In the last year I've had the experience of working at a job 70+ hr weeks for 4-5 straight months, and the complete opposite scenario of having time to reflect and slow down for once. I've had time to think, study, plan, also time to reflect on everything I needed to. I have daily stresses just like anyone else, but I learned not to let the get to me, don't let them build up. There are far greater things ahead. Yes, I have daily problems work or home, but I face them, overcome them, and never let them get the best of my day, because this is my life and I'm going to enjoy everyday God gives me to the fullest.

The best way to find good in thyself is to begin to look for good in others. ~Unknown

So we are all fighting daily battles, we are all different, unique in our own way. We don't all agree on the same things, values, or beliefs. But hey, that's okay. That's what makes this life on Earth such a great place to live, we have so much diversity and difference in cultures, customs, etc. that we should embrace every opportunity that we come in contact with. Not only with different cultures, but within our own culture, nation, city, community & even families & friends, You must remember we are all different people, destined here for a different purpose/mission. Don't disrupt someone else's dreams or goals, let them live his or her own life to their own beliefs and values, differences they believe in.

I love how I'm completely different than most people I meet, and I'm not any better with my differences, I'm equal as a human being. Because different qualities such as looks, values, beliefs, ideas, skills that each of us posess are not any greater than the other. Each different quality possessed is equal in importance and beneficial in it's own way. God made us each unique and different for our own life purpose and mission, use your traits and qualities for the good in your life and help others realize this.

Now this is where "Treat others as you wish to be treated", the "golden rule" comes into play. But as I've dived deeper in the "Christian Faith" and as I get older, wiser and living my more "Gatsby Lifestyle," I've become aware that it is kind of ironic that some Christians aren't always the best to practice what they preach. When it comes to treating and judging others as they should treat themselves. (Golden Rule). I find frustrating at times when I see some Christians being cynical and judgmental towards not only other Christians, but non-Christians.
For example; When I see someone who possibly isn't living a "Christian lifestyle" or hasn't found faith yet, it can be little disappointing/sad to me.  So I will mention something to them (BUT! only throwing out the idea, not forcing or judgemental). I find it wrong to be upfront and rude, pushing your own faith and beliefs on someone else, which make them feel inferior just because they are not living the lifestyle that you think they should be. *Remember it's his or her own choice and lifestyle, so be happy if they are happy in their own life.

Now, I believe in going out of your way and helping others and there is nothing wrong with expressing your beliefs, faith, and values to others. This is the only way we can spread LOVE & God's Good Word! :) But! don't "be-little" people for being different than you, by judging and criticizing his or her lifestyle you are not being a Christian at all.

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. ~The Apostle Paul (Col 3:12)

Remember judgments are opinions that we form only after we have made a serious effort to know the facts, and, for those of us who are Christians, only after we have consulted the moral teachings of Scripture.
In Matthew 7:3-5, Jesus states:
“And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?  How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.

So since we all have this distorted perspective, we need either to be very humble (not prideful) or else leave judging to God alone. We have a moral responsibility to judge the moral behavior of others—but only if we are humbly aware that we will sometimes be dead wrong and never totally right. We must remember that our ability to judge is limited and especially that we are sinful people who will ourselves, one day, come under judgment.

I choose kindness...I will be kind to the poor, for they are alone. Kind to the rich, for they are afraid. And kind to the unkind, for such is how God has treated me. ~Max Lucado

Go out and live YOUR life to your values, beliefs and faith, don't be afraid to show your differences and unique qualities to others. It's what makes you different and unique in your own God given way. Embrace other people's differences and values with respect!

Open your mind, to Open your heart.

Simplify, Simplify, Simplify!

Our life is frittered away by detail... Simplify, simplify, simplify! ... Simplicity of life and elevation of purpose. - Henry David Thoreau

"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion." - From "Waldon" by  Henry David Thoreau

I think Thoreau was definitely on the right track, he emphasized the importance of solitude, contemplation, and closeness to nature in transcending the "desperate" existence that, he argues, is the lot of most people. We all need to take time and slow down in our lives to listen, see, touch, taste, experience, feel, & live what is around us. Not just nature, but connect with the people in our lives, but not so much all of the objects and gadgets that take up too much time already.

As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler; solitude will not be solitude, poverty will not be poverty, nor weakness weakness. - Henry David Thoreau
SOLITUDE:
A little solitude is important in everyone's life. I don't mean going out to live in the woods for 2 yrs like Thoreau did, but more like taking time out each day for some quick mediation or "alone time" for yourself to just simplify your thoughts, ease your mind, speak to God, or clear your mind, & let go of the daily stress that has been bothering you lately.

SIMPLIFY:
This is important, simplify your daily life in little ways and it will make your life that much easier. It will alleviate the stress that builds up in your daily life.
- Speak Less, Think More.  Simplify and it will alleviate stress, don't be quick to judge, quick to act, quick to argue. Simplify your actions and thoughts.
- We all (including myself) get caught up in the day to day gadgets, technology, etc. But this technology isn't a bad thing, if you don't let consume your day and your thoughts.
- We all need our solitude (take time for yourself everyday! It can be a little as 5 mins, or as long as you need!)
- Open your mind, ease your thoughts, don't let bundle up together, (one at a time)
Smile. (It's amazing what a smile will do for your mood)
Pick up a good book and/or put on your favorite music and let yourself out every once in a while.
- Go outside & experience nature & the earth
- Workout, go on a run, exercise, burn off some stress
- Keep a journal, write down your thoughts, or what is bothering you, then look back and handle it
- Drop the negative people, To be more positive, you need to fill your life with positivity all around you
- Get some Sleep
- Just Relax
- Find a place that you can just be at peace of mind, and stare at something beautiful! (There's beauty all around us)

Very often, people confuse simple with simplistic. The nuance is lost on most. Clement Mok

Most of the luxuries, and many of the so-called comforts of life, are not only not indispensable, but positive hindrances to the elevation of mankind. With respect to luxuries and comforts, the wisest have even lived a more simple and meager life than the poor -Henry David Thoreau

It is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all.

Miracles

"If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly, our whole life would change." - Buddha

When you think about it, life is a series of tiny miracles, although many may go unnoticed. As we progress and get caught up in our busy daily lives, many will start to loose sight of the little miracles that are happening all around us. Why does this happen? People get caught up in his or her daily activities, staying busy and living to fast. Well slow down, look around and notice the miracles that are happening all around you. Some may be big, others small, some so small that many don't realize they truly are miracles any longer. Such things that are taken for granted, expected to happen by the common man. But he or she cannot see the true beauty of what is "really happening" in each situation.

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”

What is a miracle? A miracle can be anything and everything. It can be something you wouldn't even suspected, something that may get taken for granted by most. Don't live your life expecting everything to turn out the way you anticipated, it won't, be ready & be the miracle. The miracles are happening all around us, to put it best, one of the most inspirational movie scenes in my opinion comes from the Movie Bruce Almighty feat. Jim Carrey (Bruce) & Morgan Freeman (God) Watch this quick 1.5 min clip till the very end and you'll see.

So I encourage you all to start seeing the miracles all around you, but also BE the miracle in your life and someone else's life. You can make changes, you have the power to go beyond expectations & be the miracle.

Miracles are a retelling in small letters of the very same story which is written across the whole world in letters too large for some of us to see.”

― C.S. Lewis

Open your eyes and slow down, take a moment and see for yourself! They are all around you, something happening everyday that is truly a miracle. A miracle of God, a miracle of Nature, a miracle from a Kind Heart, a miracle of Love.

A Little's Enough...

Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” - Luke 6:38

In every aspect of life, no matter what the situation, task, job, question, or opportunity that present's itself.. all it takes is a little action or effort...

We can sometimes get lost in the big or larger than life ideas, tasks, opportunities, numbers, problems, challenges that we have to face on a day to day basis. But it's the little actions that you can take on a daily basis that add up to go a long way. Investing a little at a time in different areas of life, makes facing these challenges/problems which may have once seemed larger than life easier to deal with & handle.

Not only with problems, or future problems, but think about it on a whole other level. "A little goes a long way" This can relate to an infinite number of topics and situations in your life. Some examples..

  • Adding little details and striving to work hard at your daily job
  • Add a little energy to the room
  • Do something, before you are told/or reminded
  • A little help (extending a helping hand) to someone in need.
  • A simple smile to a passerby
  • Paying it forward (put it first to give and help out, without expecting it return)
  • A kind word to a stranger or loved one whenever possible.
  • A simple thank you
  • Be the first one to forgive and forget when something happens
  • Positive input, uplifting words
  • Daily reminders to loved ones
  • Take care of your health/appearance
  • Speak out little more
  • Be a little more positive/caring
  • Trust God & others a little more
  • Live carefree a little more
  • Go beyond expectations
  • Open your heart a little more
  • Little finishing touches, details in every situation
  • Let in a little more LOVE
  • and so many more!
In every situation, challenge, task, opportunity in life, not only give it "Your All",  but a little more than required/necessary.  In the end you will reap the rewards of that the little extra amount of input you put in earlier.

Remember, if you do nothing, you will not move forward in the task at hand or situation you face, but if you at least put forth a "little" it will move mountains in the future you thought you couldn't climb.

The littlest positive actions, thoughts, words, sayings, details, activities, inputs, etc. can make the biggest difference in the future..

I encourage you to start or keep moving mountains today! Always practice "A little goes a long way" Put forth a "little more" everything/anything than you usually would, in any situation you desire. Be active and don't wait to pay people back, pay them forward.

"In every aspect of life... what you put forth.. is what you get out."

Dare To Be Yourself

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life." ~ Steve Jobs

As life brings about changes, challenges, and it's daily up's & down's, there is always one thing to remember, "Always Be Yourself".

Your life choices, decisions, & actions should reflect on your beliefs and true character. Everyday should be a representation of your beliefs. Do not get caught up in the trends/crowd, make a statement for yourself and stand out from the crowd. This is your life, your time, your choices.

It is important to support and have those that support you in your life. But you must also ride the energy of your own unique spirit. Be strong, be determined, be unique in your own way. Have faith in your own ability, for you alone can create and live the life you choose. This is your time, your life, do not live your life to meet someone else's satisfaction. Live it out.. to reach your own beliefs, dreams, and goals. If you are constantly trying to prove yourself to others and live up to certain expectations, you will lose your "real self" along the way. But if you give each chance and opportunity in life everything you got, and have no regrets, then your "loved ones" around you should be proud no matter what the outcome is.

"Don't dare to be different, dare to be yourself, if that doesn't make you different then something is wrong."
~ Laura Baker

Starting today and onward, don't think outside the box. Think like there is no box. The opportunities are limitless, seize each moment.

The time is now to stand out, be unique and stand up for what you believe in.
- Think for yourself (Your choices and decisions should be your "own")
- Don't be swayed by the crowd (Your not really missing out on anything)
- Take chances/risks and work hard. (Without failure nothing new can be gained and it is only those who are willing to take risks and to work hard at their dreams who eventually break through and succeed.)
- Do things differently (Change things up every once in a while)
- Have good manners (Politeness opens doors and keeps them open)
- Do what you'll say you do (Reliability makes you memorable)
- Show initiative (Take action while everyone else stands back)
- Be attentive (Give someone your attention, and you will receive it in return, it won't hurt to put away the cell phone or laptop for awhile)
- Remind people how great they are (Regularly single out people in your life, from the workplace to home, to remind them how great they are. Take the time to acknowledge the people in our lives whom we take for granted)

Keep The Fire Burning...

I believe in the kingdom come
Then all the colors will bleed into one
Bleed into one
Well yes I'm still running

You broke the bonds and you
Loosed the chains
Carried the cross
Of my shame
Of my shame
You know I believed it

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for..

I  think the band U2 said it best with their song, "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For".  Funny thing is, I've never really listened to U2 that much.  I am a huge music driven individual, so to not even give U2 a try was a huge mistake. U2 has such a huge following, and maybe it's the "mainstream" aspect of them, that first turned me off. But I recently started listening to them, because I heard they were a huge inspiration for my favorite band Angels & Airwaves, which AvA is one of my inspiration sources. And then the pieces started to fall into place, I got it, I could see U2's messages in their songs, just like AvA tries to spread "Love".

I encourage you to take some time to think on this topic I am about to talk about..   This relates to, but is a little different than my previous post on "What Inspires you?" I am not talking about things that "inspires" you, but more of a goal or dream you wish to one day achieve.  Take your inspirations and put them into action! My faith in Jesus & love inspire me everyday to live a more positive and optimistic life and accomplish my dreams.

What do you seek with all your heart? what is it that drives you? It can be a numerous amount of things. The way I see it...  the more things in your life that you seek and are driven towards the better. All of you have a "calling", a "purpose". Each person's "calling"/"purpose" is different and unique in his or her own way. We need embrace & remember our "inspirations" I talked about in an earlier post and use them to accomplish and obtain our "Dreams & Goals"

Once you achieve/obtain a certain goal or dream, start the next journey to accomplish the next great chapter in your life and reach new heights. You can obtain and achieve anything and everything you want out of life. The question is.. What do you want out of life? What do you want to accomplish during your time on  earth? What kind of impact do you want to leave on the planet and those around you?

Maybe a long lasting heartfelt message to the ones you love? or make an impact on the environment for a cleaner tomorrow? or a leaving your positive teachings to youth and students of today? etc..  or all of the above and so much more! There are endless opportunities out there for each of us..

Make sure you are always "seeking" & "driven" towards your dreams,  then you will accomplish great things in your life!  *Remember to always keep the fire burning inside you!

We would all like to hope our history on this earth is worth remembering, with great heart-felt life achievements & accomplishing goals & dreams, but along the way we have to remember that there is something even bigger than ourselves..

Make sure you impact those around you in every positive way you can! Because you need people to share your achievements & dreams with..

I wanna run, I want to hide
I wanna tear down the walls
That hold me inside
I wanna reach out
And touch the flame
Where the streets have no name

I want to feel, sunlight on my face
I see the dust cloud disappear
Without a trace
I want to take shelter
From the poison rain
Where the streets have no name

Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name
We're still building, then burning down love
Burning down love, and when I go there
I go there with you, it's all I can do
- U2 - "Where the streets have no name"

Always be persistent in your dreams and goals and you will achieve great things in life..

Remember:
"Keep the Fire Burning"
