You may have heard the phrase "Patience is a Virtue"

But, what does this mean?
Virtue: A virtue is a positive trait or quality deemed to be morally good and thus is valued as a foundation of principle and good moral being.

So patience is a great trait to possess and practice everyday, if only it was that easy right?

It is very strange that the years teach us patience - that the shorter our time, the greater our capacity for waiting. ~ Elizabeth Taylor

We All Need More Patience
How can we have more patience? I know I need more patience everyday and in a variety of situations whether it be patience for the future, patience for the day, or a single given task. We all need to remember to have more patience! Patience is such a simple act, that is quickly overlooked, so maybe that is what makes it so difficult to abide by and practice often.

Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

I get caught in the "Now" and "Instant Gratification" of today's society, do you also? Our culture/society today has grown to be accustomed to wanting & getting everything he/she needs or wants right NOW at this moment. How can we break this habit? This is not only the everyday necessities that we seek out, but we tend to want everything our heart desires for the future, such as; love, friendships, job, money, "the whole nine yards", but we must remember! We cannot and SHOULD NOT have it all at once. Have Patience, Seek Peace & Trust in God. Then, and only then will you receive everything your heart seeks & desires in life.

“Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.” ~ Aristotle

Remember: Patience is sometimes a hard thing to endure, but the end result is worth it....

Patience in Life, Patience in God

Just as we need to practice patience in our everyday life of desires and wants, we also need to have Patience with God. Pray and talk to God about what you want and seek in life, put your trust in him, but remember you may not receive instant gratification from God. He does not work that way, just because you prayed for something on Monday, doesn't mean it will happen on Tuesday, you need to give it time, show him you TRUST HIM and be PATIENCE.

Pray often, Open up Your Heart & Mind. Then and Only then you will see the true gifts from God. I encourage you to pray every night or morning, open up your heart, show you are vulnerable, but also show him you truly believe and trust and give thanks for what you already have in life!

“The two hardest tests on the spiritual road are the patience to wait for the right moment and the courage not to be disappointed with what we encounter.” ~ Paulo Coelho

Always REMEMBER What You Prayed For!

Think back, remember what you prayed for in the past. Whether it be a day, a week, a month, a year ago. Think back, remember and then you will see God was really listening and was waiting for the right time to respond. You may think "right now", right after you prayed in the "Right" time for what you want, but you need to be PATIENCE and then you will see.....

Christianity is about a lifetime of growth. The most mature believers that you know still need to deepen and grow. That is the them of the Old Testament book of Job. The most mature follower of God repents at the end of the book, because he considered himself good enough, then realizes that the best we can be is still miles short of God's absolute perfection.

When God responds and answers your prayers... Be sure to Give Him Thanks!

Patience = Action at The Right Time.

“Patience is power. Patience is not an absence of action; rather it is "timing" it waits on the right time to act, for the right principles and in the right way.” ~ Fulton J. Sheen

Fulton J. Sheen, says it perfect above, Patience is not an absence of action, but it is more about timing, have patience for the right time to act. Always remember this!

The keys to patience are acceptance and faith. Accept things as they are, and look realistically at the world around you. Have faith in yourself and in the direction you have chosen. ~ Ralph Marston

“Time has no meaning, Love will endure..” ~ Jude Deveraux

Let it Grow
~ Ross

  1. Great post Ross! I like how you have weaved the closely-related themes of prayer, faith, trust, and patience together in this post. Patience is so crucial as we wait, with hope, for those yearnings and desires that God has placed in our hearts to be fulfilled. And our patience must run deep, because although some yearnings may be partially fulfilled in this life, most won't be completely until we enter the kingdom of heaven. To quote a fellow scientist, Blaise Pascal, "We are never living, but hoping to live; and whilst we are always preparing to be happy, it is certain, we never shall be so, if we aspire to no other happiness than what can be enjoyed in this life."

    1. Thanks Dale for the words of encouragement and that is a really good quote by Pascal, I'll have to remember that one!
